🇩🇪 Dieses Wochenende waren wir in wichtiger Mission unterwegs. Zur Rettung der Zukunft des Limeskastell in Pohl stand für Samstag der Besuch des rheinland-pfälzischen Innenministers Michael Ebling an. Uns verbindet seit vielen Jahren eine Freundschaft zum Limeskastell und einigen von euch ist es u.a. durch unser Ancient Tracks Camp vom letzten Jahr bekannt.
Wir trafen uns bereits am Vorabend mit befreundeten Reenactern um gemeinsam das Projekt zu unterstützen.
Das Limeskastell Pohl ist ein nach heutigem Forschungsstand authentischer Nachbau eines römischen Holz-Erde-Kastells mit Wachturm um 100 n.Chr.
Anfang des Monats hat das Kastell seine Tore geschlossen um auf sich und seine aktuellen Probleme aufmerksam zu machen.
Auslöser war eine Forderung der ADD (Aufsichts- und Dienstleistungsdirektion Rheinland-Pfalz) die nach 12 Jahren eine Rückforderung über 22.000 € ihrer damaligen Förderung stellte, da angeblich keine "Kunst am Bau" realisiert wurde.
Dieses Problem konnte zwischenzeitlich schnell und unbürokratisch gelöst werden, so dass sie letztes Wochenende wieder öffneten, passend zum Besuch des rheinland-pfälzischen Innenministers Michael Ebling. Bei diesem Termin konnten weitere Gründe für die Schließung wie ein fehlendes Konzept für den zukünftigen Betrieb des Kastells besprochen werden. Die aktuelle Museumsleitung wird im nächsten Jahr aufhören und zu dem wird das Kastell bisher ausschließlich mit Ehrenamtler betrieben, welche dem Besucherstrom von 15.000 Leuten im Jahr nicht gewachsen sind.
Zur Unterstützung des Kastells waren fast 70 , Ehrenamtler, Landes- und Lokalpolitiker sowie Freunde des Kastells vor Ort. Und wenn man den Vorträgen der Politiker glauben kann, scheint sich eine "Allianz der Willigen" zu bilden die eine Lösung für die Zukunft des Kastells erarbeiten wird.
🇬🇧 This weekend we were on an important mission. To save the future of the Limes fort in Pohl, the visit of the Rhineland-Palatinate Minister of the Interior Michael Ebling was scheduled for Saturday. We have been friends with the Limes fort for many years and some of you may know it from our Ancient Tracks Camp last year.
We met already the evening before with friendly reenactors to support the project together.
According to current research, the Limes fort Pohl is an authentic replica of a Roman timber and earth fort with watchtower from around 100 AD.
At the beginning of the month, the fort closed its gates to draw attention to itself and its current problems.
This was triggered by a demand from the ADD (Supervisory and Service Directorate of Rhineland-Palatinate), which after 12 years demanded the return of €22,000 of its former funding, as allegedly no "art in architecture" had been realized.
This problem has since been solved quickly and unbureaucratically, so that they reopened last weekend, to coincide with the visit of Rhineland-Palatinate's Minister of the Interior, Michael Ebling. Other reasons for the closure, such as the lack of a concept for the future operation of the fort, were discussed at this meeting. The current museum management will retire next year and, in addition, the fort has so far been run exclusively by volunteers who are unable to cope with the 15,000 visitors a year.
Almost 70 volunteers, state and local politicians and friends of the fort were on hand to support the fort. And if the politicians' speeches are to be believed, an "alliance of the willing" seems to be forming to work out a solution for the future of the fort.
