🇩🇪 Der Piratenweg von Cala de Deià hat einen historischen Hintergrund, denn die Region wurde im 15. und 16. Jahrhhundert häufig von Piraten und Korsaren überfallen. Zur Abwehr bauten die Bewohner Türme, wie überall an der Küste Mallorcas. In Llucalcari, am Rande des Piratenweges, sind noch 3 der ursprünglich 5 Türme zu sehen: sie sind heute Wohnhäuser bzw Hotel. Und auch in Deià selbst, ganz oben wo die heutige Kirche steht, stand ein "Piratenturm", die Kanonen sind der heute übriggebliebene Hinweis hierauf.
Im nächsten Ort, Sóller, feiern die Mallorquiner bis heute jährlich ein Fest zu Ehren einer großen Schlacht die sie 1561 gegen die Korsaren gewonnen haben.
🇬🇧 The pirate trail of Cala de Deià has a historical background, as the region was frequently attacked by pirates and corsairs in the 15th and 16th centuries. To defend themselves, the inhabitants built towers, as they did everywhere on the coast of Mallorca. In Llucalcari, on the edge of the pirate trail, 3 of the original 5 towers can still be seen: today they are residential buildings or hotels. And in Deià itself, right at the top where today's church stands, there was also a "pirate tower", the cannons are the remaining evidence of this today.
In the next village, Sóller, the Mallorcans still celebrate an annual festival in honor of a great battle they won against the corsairs in 1561.
