🇩🇪 Der Römerturm am Reckberg wurde im Dezember frisch renoviert und dem aktuellen Forschungsstand angepasst.
Die Kombination aus Kleinkastell und Wachtturm ist für den Niedergermanischen Limes nur hier bei Neuss nachgewiesen. Das Ensemble bestand von Anfang des 2. bis zur Mitte des 3. Jahhunderts n. Chr. und diente der Überwachung des Verkehrs zu Land und zu Wasser. Heute ist es Unesco Wletkulturerbe.
Neuss hat bedeutsame Wurzeln in der Römerzeit und gehört zu den ältesten Städten in Nordrhein-Westfalen, denn von 16 v. bis 256 n. Chr. war der Platz an der Erftmündung nachweislich eine römische Garnison mit der Bezeichnung Novaesium.
Insgesamt gab es hier sechs aufeinander folgende römische Feldlager, ein festes Legionslager und ein Reiterkastell.
Ganz nebenbei sind auch wir beide in Neuss aufgewachsen und gerade deshalb würden wir uns wünschen dass die Neusser ihr römisches Erbe mehr anerkennen würden.
🇬🇧 The Roman tower on the Reckberg was freshly renovated in December and adapted to the current state of research.
The combination of a small fort and watchtower is only documented for the Lower Germanic Limes here near Neuss. The ensemble existed from the beginning of the 2nd to the middle of the 3rd century AD and was used to monitor traffic on land and water. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Neuss has significant roots in Roman times and is one of the oldest towns in North Rhine-Westphalia, as there is evidence that the site at the mouth of the River Erft was a Roman garrison called Novaesium from 16 BC to 256 AD.
There were a total of six successive Roman military camps here, a permanent legionary camp and an equestrian fort.
We both grew up in Neuss and that is precisely why we would like the people of Neuss to recognize their Roman heritage more.
