🇩🇪 Die Burg von Porto Palermo, Albanien
Die gut erhaltene Festung liegt auf einer kleinen, ehemaligen Insel, die mittlerweile über einen schmalen Landstreifen mit dem Festland verbunden ist. Zuletzt wurde die Anlage noch in kommunistischer Zeit vom albanischen Militär genutzt, als noch U-Boote in der nahe gelegenen Basis ankerten.
Im frühen 19. Jahrhundert baute Tepedelenli Ali Pascha die aktuelle dreieckige Festung auf einer bereits bestehenden Anlage. Ali Pascha war auch bekannt als „Löwe von Ioannina“ und hat sich vom Kopf einer Diebesbande zum Herrscher hochgearbeitet.
Wer hier zuerst gebaut hat ist unklar, jedoch muss sie aus einer Zeit vor Kanonen stammen, da sie denen aus den umliegenden Bergen ziemlich ausgesetzt wurde. Die Türken besetzten die Festung und modernisierten sie etwa um 1662 um die Bevölkerung in Schach zu halten.
Heute kann man die Festung mit einer kleinen Führung besuchen, wer Glück hat kann den Führer auch alte albanische Lieder singen hören.

The well-preserved fortress is located on a small former island, now connected to the mainland by a narrow strip of land. It was last used by the Albanian military during the communist period, when submarines anchored at the nearby base.
In the early 19th century, Tepedelenli Ali Pasha built the current triangular fortress on top of an already existing facility. Ali Pasha was also known as the „Lion of Ioannina“ and worked his way up from the head of a gang of thieves to ruler.
Who first built here is unclear, but it must date from a time before cannons, as it was quite exposed to those from the surrounding mountains. The Turks occupied the fortress and modernized it around 1662 to keep the population under control.
Today you can visit the fortress with a small guided tour, if you are lucky you can hear the guide singing old Albanian songs.
