🇩🇪 Die Marksburg, 90 m über dem Dörfchen Braubach gelegen, stammt aus dem 12. Jahrhundert und ist die einzige Höhenburg am Mittelrhein die niemals zerstört wurde. Dies, und die Tatsache dass sie seit Baubeginn ständig bewohnt wurde, führen dazu dass sie uns in diesem einmaligen Zustand erhalten geblieben ist. Damals wurde sie als Zollburg genutzt, heute ist sie Museum und Sitz des deutschen Burgenvereins. Funfact: der Direktor des Vereins ist vertraglich verpflichtet auf der Burg zu leben.
🇬🇧 The Marksburg, 90 m above the village of Braubach, dates back to the 12th century and is the only hilltop castle on the Middle Rhine that has never been destroyed. This, and the fact that it was constantly inhabited since the beginning of construction, lead to the fact that it has been preserved in this unique condition. At that time it was used as a customs castle, today it is a museum and the headquarters of the German Castle Association. Fun fact: the director of the association is contractually obliged to live in the castle.
